Angelika Krinzinger's new book Im Detail is a compilation of her most important works from the last two decades. Her conceptual and intimate photographic series always reflects the conditions inherent to the medium. Each photograph per se depicts a detail cropped from the world, and the world itself as a surface in the first place. Krinzinger's extreme close-ups, for instance in Body Details, Muttermilch or Ambras, draw their profound intensity from her knowledge of the way the human body has been portrayed and depicted in art throughout history: her photography is never voyeuristic in its abstraction and introduces the possibility of a gaze at sexuality and physicality that is both objective and tender. 'The artist offers an insight into her photographic work, which is defined by an interest in the structures and surfaces of animate and inanimate objects and guided by a desire for making size and strength visible, but in the small and little details.'
