Wolfgang Vollmer's works address the medium of photography in a variety of ways. Rather than capturing and recording a particular scene, it is more about collecting, researching, re-evaluating and replicating. Wolfgang Vollmer examines the conditions intrinsic to the media, dissolving the apparently self-evident facts and then reconstructing them in a controlled manner. Here photography is about questioning reality, perception, and artistic subjectivity.

Masterpieces of Photographic Art – The Vollmer Collection
showcases a museum collection of well-known photographs. But on closer inspection, these supposedly familiar original masterpieces prove confusing, featuring a mixture of ironic referencing and affectionate homage. The question of the original, its place within the art market, and the appreciation of photography is broached all over again.

survived.
Here photography is about exploring our own role models, our wanted and unwanted companions. What is the role, the significance, of the people who in one way or another have accompanied, shaped, and influenced our lives? The personalised portrayal gives the photographer space for a reappraisal and contextualisation.

Henry Rox
The almost forgotten German-American artist, sculptor and photographer Henry Rox (1899-1967) is being honoured for the first time in a publication dedicated to the artist and his life’s work: the Henry Rox Revue. His photographic invention of living fruit sculptures is the missing link between Man Ray’s surreal experiments, the transformations of Pop Art, and the ironic value displacements of Fischli and Weiss.

VADEMECUM
The Vademecum collection features more than 1,000 original analogue amateur photographs, spread across 46 individual cardboard boxes. Sorted according to their technical circumstances, themes, and attributes, these photos are a renewed opportunity to highlight the field of photography, thanks to a second viewing as it were. The deconstruction and concentration make the circumstances in which the medium operates tangible. Also conveyed are the classic photographic images with which everyone is familiar from their own experiences with private photography, e.g. house plants, Christmas, looking out the window, or picture-in-picture.

Fraglich Publishing
Exhibition in the FOTOHOF library

Fraglich Publishing is a small publishing house initiated by Austrian photographer and researcher Lukas Birk in 2007 and is based, wherever the books are made. Most of the titles have something to do with photographic archives and the history of countries like Myanmar, Afghanistan, Pakistan and China.

The editions are usually produced directly in the region connected to the content of the publication. Fraglich Publishing offers the books at a fair price to the audience that benefits from what they publish.
